Infrainstrumentos, de acordo com Bower e Archer (2005), são instrumentos com “potencial interativo restrito”, o que deixa “poucas oportunidades para o virtuosismo convencional”. Dentre os tipos de infrainstrumentos abordados no artigo, é de especial interesse aqui os infrainstrumentos que são utilizações de objetos que não são originalmente instrumentos e os infrainstrumentos que tem originalmente o status de instrumentos de brinquedo e assemelhados.
